Batchimeg Bayaraa

Batchimeg Bayaraa (1987, Mongolia) is a textile artist and activist of the “Oir Art Hub” community in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Batchimeg’s background is in interior designer but her focus shifted to the art particularly into Gobilen tapestry. Over the years, she has worked extensively in hand weaving and textile-based practices.

Her creative process is deeply intuitive and reflective; she listens to her inner voices and draws from personal experience, emotion and memory to shape her works. Tapestry weaving has played a central role in shaping her artistic language.

Onongua Enkhtur

Born in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on May 26, 1994, Onongua Enkhtur is a visual artist who explores the intersections of nature and human existence. She is the initiator of the Mongolian Trio Performance Art Group, “Neg-Uudel.” Growing up close to pastoral nomadic life in the vast Mongolian steppe has deeply influenced her artistic vision. Her work reflects the nomads’ harmonious way of living—a simple yet profound relationship with the natural world. Through her practice, she contemplates how nomads have long coexisted with their environment in a respectful, interconnected way. She prioritizes the use of natural, biodegradable, and reusable materials that are environmentally friendly and return gently to the earth.

Artistic Statement: The Timeless Journeys

In the vision of the artist, nature is her studio. She works with a diversity of materials, primarily obtained from nature. Her preferred medium is grass or straw—a living plant transformed into large structures and perceptibly endless ropes, dedicated to connecting nature and humanity.

The Spaces: Her performances and installations are born from and deeply connected to the Mongolian plain—a timeless and endless space that receives her meditation and humble, continuous work in manufacturing endless strings. The materials, whether the grass of the land or repurposed textiles and clothes, are deeply connected to the landscape, bringing a human presence into a world undefined by human civilization. Her assistants, whether humans or animals (like horses), surprisingly bring the same discipline and meditation dictated by the artist.

It is no wonder that in her works across Europe and Asia, she seeks out similar sites subtracted from urban spaces, where time and space seem to relieve the connection between nature and human beings. These spaces range from the lonely Lukian island on the Euphrates’ huge lake, to the holy mountain of Nemrut Dağı in Türkiye for the 2024 Kommagene Biennale; from weaving the world’s mane on a monumental scale in a nature park in Guandu, Taiwan, to weaving strings in the almost abandoned village of Gabrovtsi, Bulgaria. These works follow the same concept: reconnecting to an almost forgotten condition of our relationship with nature.

Her works presented indoors in exhibition spaces—including drawings, paintings, and textiles—bear the same profound sensibility for natural details.
